I've got a compressor that needs to be replaced. I used Beard before because of a tech I liked a lot. He's gone and now I want to see if anyone else is a fit. Pretty simple job. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance.
I've had great luck with Gulfstream Marine out of West Palm Beach. They travel to Ft. Lauderdale regularly.
Beard is good. I use True marine, they cover Mia to FTL. Small shop. Been using them for 10+ years both for my 53 hatt aand for the boats I run
Thanks for the leads guys. For $ reasons, I hope it's the compressor only. Good to have it go out now rather than the Exumas though....
I use Henry with Seabreeze Marine A/C, he's been around since about the time Marine air conditioning was invented and does a great job.
Tom, Just had the compressor replaced on one of my ac units last month. Because of space restraint we had to remove the unit out of the boat and replace & solder the compressor on the dock. I would give you his name but he's up here in our neck of the woods. I bought the compressor and he installed. Whole thing less than 1k.
My units are 9 years old. The condensers have been flushed every other season, flow well and none have leaked. Do you replace condensers at the same time? Thanks.
Generally I would replace the entire unit. I prefer to not have to deal with a/c break downs period. Generally a split unit lasts about 10-12 years. When the compressor blows it usually sends all sorts of debris that gets stuck in the condensor and evaporator, and then if you just install a new compressor it tends to get sacrificed a little. Then a year or two later the evaporator will go or condensor or. Not to mention your system probably has R22 which is phased out and R22 is about $65lb, and the new R410 units cool a lot better between the turbo blowers and a/c temp out of the vents being a good 10F lower usually.
Follow up. I used Comfort Air in FTL and replaced the entire unit. Everything was covered with cover guard. Not a nick on anything. On time and on budget. All of this is unremakable but it's nice to work with pros that do the obvious stuff without asking. I
