  3. Lovely, mainly the last 2 pics about the chicks women aboard. ;)
They are really so tricky, you got right. This pic I loved most.
Is that the biggest yacht they are doing in HDW Abu Dhabi Kiel ? :D

    Hi,

What makes you so sure about that?

Given the position of your lifeboats on the forward part of the ship I doubt you have any NA experience or Qualifications so your current renderings will remain just that.

Given that, they are very good so your drawing skills are very good so don't take what I wrote as a criticism of your personal skills and abilities in that direction.

    Hi,

The way the Lifeboats appear in your rendering makes it look very likely that these would be damaged or destroyed by a big sea, if there wasn't so much sticking out the side it wouldn't be as likely to occur.

They need to be better protected from the sea.

Here is a picture found on a You Tube clip of stills, this should give you an idea of how vulnerable the boats are that far forward. Also note how high and well protected the boats are in the photo.

    Hi,

I would not call it an argument, it is just a statement of fact.

Even some well protected ones get smashed to bits now and again in the high latitudes.

I would also say the bowsprit will need some toughening up if you really intend this boat to sail.

Without being offensive can I inquire as to how much of any sailing experience or other sea-time you have?

I would also think that the chosen location might limit access (either due to damage, fire or time) by those passengers and crew located aft??

Well you need not to look any further than the Oasis class of ship. Their boats are very low to the water and the forward boats are close to the bow. In fact, I think "Oasis of the Seas" had one of those forward boats damaged by big waves coming off the bow in heavy seas. They had to construct a metal shield to help protect them.

My experience is small in subject of big sailing ships. I am still developing my skills. I am just graduate so it is normal ;)
But I am a member of team (from 2008) which made many projects of sailing ships so I am not totaly green.

    Hi,

I have life rafts at the aft area of ship so it is not such a big problem.
Whay I made this chose...... I wanted to separate 2 functions- technical (life rescue) and recreation. I don't want to see situation when passanger must to look at huge life boat next to the bar. Thats why I moved them forward where I created technical area where i have: ewacuation area; storages; workshops, etc.

  16. I personally think it is ok for your computer rendering design exercises.
In this thema, what's matter is your abbility in computer rendering, which
you have done well. Most Designers anyway do not think much about
technical issues in the first hand drop for searching new forms and layouts.
This is your case. It is impressive anyway and I really don't care where Life
boats are positioned. At all, I think we have to stimulate new shapes, instead
of critizising much. It is good to give arguments of reference. If Titanic was
built for nobody caring about life Security, and it was a real, why you as new
designer in market should care. Do yourself in best way and do not got bored.

As designer also, I just do not liked the trimaran effect, which made the stern
too wide. But this is just my taste and point of view. You should really not
follow. I otherwise think the designers part in forum is a little too down in
short past and recently without at all of new works of people showing their
things. In opposite it is good to see some different than the 'normal' yacht
shapes normally from real industry, more or less all the same, mainly the
rebook shoes overflooded in ports. I loved your work much. Problably the
ones who did not liked, can not do the same in Computer Renderings, maybe
jealousy or then even do not care to do, cause they prefer the mechanical
boring things, you know, motor, oil, dirty engines, cables, not the clean form.

But it is true, as in Oasis of the Seas the boats are out of hull, they lost 1 in
severe seas, the front one, and they did the shield protection, making the ship
design outside either extreme off of the beauties we are common to see !

It doesn't matter if you care about where they are or not, luckily the decision as to where LSA are positioned is not up to you.

It might surprise you to know that a sailing vessel of this size is going to need quite a number of those things you find boring.

In the article you linked to is the following.

Malcolm says: I would have though that in this day and age of computer simulation and tank-testing, that the designers would identified the vulnerability of the Oasis lifeboats. However it took a rough crossing to highlight the issue. I suppose there is still no substitute for an ‘acid test’.

MKM, I think you wrote somewhere earlier you had design experience in the automotive industry. The marine industry has a set of rules to follow just like the Auto industry, just because you are unaware of them doesn't mean they can be ignored by yourself or anyone else "designing" a ship.

All concepts which I assume the rendering is, have to go down a certain path before they can become ships, thankfully this process is overseen and checked by professionals in their own fields.

Given that I do as stated previously agree that the rendering is well done.

Tomek, great renderings, great design, something a little different.

Can I recommend to try and keep things like lifeboats in a practical location/s as well, as K1w1 has stated. A boat of this size will be carring 100+++ crew and guests, (when needed) first everyone has to report to the muster station, and crew then forward them and them selves to the lifeboats. The muster station could be the main dining, then everyone has to proceed to the lifeboats... that could be 100m+ away by the look of your design. You could hide the boats in the side of the hull with ease (see attachment), you'll only need two of those boats as well...?

I'm currantly developing a 170m and 200m boat, both will have lifeboats at amidships, as the heli, vehicle etc hangers will be situated up on the bow, cause there not really (practically) needed. The lifeboats are actually half covered by a design feature, otherwise it would of looked fugly, right. I also did a two day delivery last month (free), to get a better insite from the captain, and how the boats design formula worked.

When you go in for your first meeting with a builder, managers, owners etc, and the builder ask why something is where it is... you can't say cause it looks good, especialy with a new concept. All that boring stuff DOES count, cause a lot of that stuff has a huge impact on where your pencel can and can't go. Talk to the engineers, Nav Archs, captains, deckies, and trust me - listen.

Hope I was a help. Cheers
