  1. Project Nova Superyacht By Heesen At 2015 MYS

The 2015 Monaco Yacht Show (MYS) kicked off this morning and one of the first press conferences of the show came from Dutch builder Heesen Yachts and it was about their Fast Displacement Hull Form (FDHF) superyacht Project 'Nova'. Of course Nova is not the first vessel to use the FDHF concept as in 2013 "Galactica Star" debuted the hull form. Since then, yachts like 42-meter steel hull "Alive", 50-meter aluminium hull "Sibelle", and the steel 55-meter "Azamanta" launched and delivered utilizing the same FDHF. Project Nova is a bit different on the performance front than the first hull of the concept -Galactica Star-.
  2. By this, we mean, instead of Nova being a speedster like Galactica Star, she is almost the opposite. Nova is only fitted with twin MTU 12V 2000 M61's which is a bit small -although not the smallest- to be carried by a yacht this size -50-meter, 499 gross tonnes-. At 10-knots it is calculated to sip just 57.5 LT per hour and at 12-knots around 98 LT per hour outside of generator use. At 12-knots continuously, her range is around 3,750 nautical miles drawing from only 45,000 LT capacity tanks. Still with the ability to reach a top speed of 16.3-knots shows how remarkable the hull form really is. The other lovely feature of Project Nova is that she is a hybrid superyacht.
  3. Her operation should be rather quiet with the addition of two water-cooled DC electric shaft motors at 127 kW each. Imagine the yacht can be run on these two (with the main engines turned off) and still produce a speed of approximately 9-knots just using 45 LT per hour! Not only is it very efficient but it is very friendly to the guests onboard who will by extension enjoy much quieter surroundings with the decibels being 10 to 12 dbs less than when the main engines are operational. The design of Project Nova is by Frank Laupman of Omega Architects who was instructed to produce a yacht with striking lines and modern appeal. Nova will be carrying her guests in six staterooms inclusive of a master suite on the main deck and full beam VIP-category suite on the lower deck. The interior design tries to echo that of the beach-inspired exterior style and this has been conceptualized by Sinot Yacht Design. She will be built as YN17850 and be classed ABS A1 Commercial Yachting Service AMS Large Commercial Yacht Code LY3. She will also be built in all-aluminium.
