    Taking Trawlers Into The 21st Century

    Bering Yachts president Alexei Mikhaylov is quickly building on the popularity
    of his new line of steel trawlers. In a radical departure from tried and tired designs, he's
    displacing displacement stereotypes with a modern new trawler... the Bering 18, already in-build!​

    Starting from scratch, with a blank digital slate, Alexei took a look at today's trawlers and continually asked the question... WHY? The result is an edgy new euro-look that is certain to appeal to a broader market. The new Bering 18 is now in production with a launch date of March, 2012. Like all Bering vessels, every aspect of this new offering has been evaluated to provide the highest level of sea keeping ability to safely cruise any coastline or ocean, while optimizing comfort of the crew. Working with an in-house naval architect, interior and exterior designers, application engineers in cooperation with Z&M Naval Design Bureau on the B18, Bering Yachts prides itself on providing “beyond semi-custom vessels” to suit individual needs and works closely with knowledgeable owners to design a vessel that best suits the intended use.
  2. The new B18 is a true long range ocean going cruiser with a 4,000+ NM range and is the heaviest passage maker on the market in its class. With only a 5’ 5” draft, this yacht is ideal for Bahamas and coastal cruising. The Seakeeper gyro stabilizer considerably reduces roll making any voyage more pleasurable.
  3. The B18 is constructed of A-36 steel. Steel construction is the material of choice for any full displacement, long-range passage maker - much harder, stronger and abrasion resistant, no matter what material is compared. Steel provides strength, durability, fire resistance and ease of repair.
  4. Steel can take enormously high loads at a moment of impact. It does not burn, it does not absorb water and for a trawler, adds weight in the right place. A minimum of four watertight, steel acoustically and thermally insulated bulkheads and integrated fuel, water, and ballast tanks have been carefully positioned to assure a low center of gravity, giving the highest level of cruising comfort.
  5. Standard power is twin Cummins QSB5.9 diesel engines (225 HP each) commercial marine heavy duty. Several ReGenNautic diesel-electric hybrid drive system options allowing up to 60% fuel economy are optionally available. Bow and stern thrusters are standard with controls in the pilot house. Main engine throttle controls are located in the pilot house and on the fly bridge. Standard Genset is one Onan 21.5KW with sound shield, muffler and exhaust separator.
  6. The Bering 18 boasts an engine room with 6’ 8” head room, completely insulated using advanced acoustic insulation with the engines located beneath the engine room floor. This low position allows a 4’ long 0 degree shaft angle, adding propulsion and hull efficiency. A DeAngelo exhaust system with Centec muffler/separate makes the exhaust quiet and long lasting.
  7. 24VDC is provided by 18 AGM 4D batteries. A large capacity house bank with 2x5KW inverters insures a long anchorage with generator switched off without power interruption. The fuel is delivered from four fuel tanks. A water tight box located on the engine room ceiling houses a retractable hydraulic Opacmare gangway.
  8. Access to the engine room is via the Euro-style, twin step swim platform. A 10-foot Opacmare hydraulic telescoping gangway assists med-docking. The platform also has a convenient transom shower, as well as a Glendinning retractable shore power cable.
  9. Utilizing a streamlined bulb, the Bering 18 hull isn't a typical round bilge, but adapts a modern trawler hull design that adds better lateral stability and roll damping. And if two-screws aren't enough, both bow and stern thrusters will parallel park this puppy.
  10. The Bering 18 was designed to rest on bottom, should you ever get caught in a high & dry tide. You can also put a "No-Fear" sticker on the bumper because your running gear is shielded from floating containers or rising reefs. Notice the stern thruster box located at transom center, along the boot stripe; granting access for maintenance.
  11. The full-beam master stateroom is located midship, the best location for minimum pitch and roll forces.
