After leaving an AIM party following the 2016 Palm Beach Boat Show on Friday night, I stopped to talk with David Dubois who was taking some night shots from DJI Phantom. He was kind enough to offer the following shots - free of charge - for YF members to enjoy. Breaking our own rules, I'm uploading these pics at 2400 pixels for anyone who wants to download them and zoom in. For our less experienced users, left click on the pic to open, then right click to download it to your destination folder...

SanLorenzo Launches Second 460EXP, "X"
The second unit in the SanLorenzo 42-meter 460EXP line has been launched and is called "X". Just to clarify, 460EXP does not suggest the yacht is 46-meters long, it is actually 42.2-meters in her overall length. It is the same scenario for her debut hull sister called "Moka". The line is actually around 460 GT which is where the 460EXP term is derived. Although X is similar in design she is painted differently making it fairly easy to recognize her should they both turn up at the same marina...

Just last week YF let you know that the largest Heesen superyacht to be built so far was being prepared for launching. Now we can also let you know that she has been christened in the presence of industry officials and yard workers and the owner. The 70-meter superyacht was built under the project name 'Kometa' and only until the christening was the final name revealed. The new Heesen flagship is called "Galactica Super Nova" running in similar space theme to the 65-meter "Galactica Star". Although we have seen Galactica Star many times, the new 70-meter Super Nova is a lot more refined in design and presents more details for the eyes to feast upon...

72.5-meter Abeking & Rasmussen Superyacht "CloudBreak" Rolls Out
German builder Abeking & Rasmussen recently rolled-out their first launch of the new year. The custom-built superyacht is a 72.5-meter vessel designed by Espen Oeino. The design looks reminiscent of another Oeino design from 2015, "Ester III". This A&R superyacht already has her nameplates installed and it is easy to see what she is called -"CloudBreak"-. The yacht received its name from one of the 10 best surf spots in the world -this one located off Fiji in the Pacific-. Once delivered CloudBreak should be A&R's fourth-largest launch behind "Secret", "Kibo" and "RoMEA". Of course A&R has a new flagship under construction measuring a significant 98-meters. While Espen Oeino's work on the exterior is evident, the interior is by French designer Christian Liaigre with many of the furniture pieces and arrangements done by PH-Design...
Mulder Begins Building 36-meter Yacht
Mulder Shipyard in the Netherlands has begun construction of a new 36-metre yacht, the yard’s largest project-to-date and the second to be built to the exacting new LY3 standard. Having successfully delivered a 28.65-metre Mulder Voyager and the 34-metre custom-built Solis in 2015, this new 36-metre project is the next step forward for a Dutch yard that is making significant waves in the global superyacht market. “The basic concept behind this exciting new yacht is to make the most out of a volume not exceeding 300 GT,” explains yard director Dick Mulder. “This will open up excellent possibilities for both private use and chartering, with the possibility of having a relatively small crew on board when the owners are onboard.” A full beam design will allow the volume and privacy in the owners’ area to be maximised...

2016 Miami Boat Show
For 2016, the Miami Boat Show committed urban sprawl. Tag along with us (it beats the bus!) for the Yacht and Brokerage Show along Collins Ave, which has been rebranded to the "Yachts Miami Beach" show. This used to be the place to see the "biggest and baddest" yachts in the area, as well as new arrivals. Well, the big boys were MIA, relocated to a new venue on Watson Island and called "Superyachts Miami"; now located at the Island Gardens Deep Harbor Marina off the Port of Miami... you know, where ships berth. Not a bad idea to relocate dock-consuming vessels but the general public was shunned without an invite, credentials or a bag-a-bucks. Next best thing.....
Luiz DeBasto Designs 40M Evolution
Blending the lines between a flybridge boat and an express cruiser, Luiz Debasto has hit on a new 'open' concept with the debut of a 40-meter yacht design at the 2016 Miami Boat Show. The Top Deck 40M is the ocean-going evolution of a radical party boat that made it's first appearance in 2014, the Top Deck 63' for Astondoa Yachts; a hybrid center console that transformed into a self-contained island. Mostly utilitarian in nature, it created serious envy with anyone under a t-top...
