Even if you had the factory gelcoat out of the same can that Post used on your boat in 1988 it would not match. Gelcoat changes color as it ages and any good gelcoat guy is going to tint the gelcoat to match on the boat. So, you're going to have to get gelcoat that is close and tint it to match. Any good gelcoat guy usually mixes/tints gelcoat right on the boat. I've also found with shades of white, it's easiest to match it in low light versus direct sunlight.

You're only other option is if you have a piece that has your gelcoat on it, that's removable from a nearby area (or a piece you cut off to mount electronics), you can take it to a good narine paint supplier and they could computer match it and get it very close.

I do quite a few gelcoat repairs. Matching sun faded gel is a bit of a skill I've learned over the years. I have built up a kit of gel tints to blend to the required colour.

Ask around a local yard/marina to see if there is anyone local who has this knowledge, there's normaly someone who can gel match. It's not rocket science.
