I've moved up from my 46 to a 50 that isn't equipped with a washer and dryer, it appears that they we're usually installed in the closest in the forward stateroom on the stb side and would be a combo unit. My problem is that my opening is only 21-3/4" wide and the splendide units are 23-3/4 inches, how has anyone gotten one installed without modifications?
    Thanks!

They used the traditional apartment style washer on bottom and dryer on top. I believe you have to remove the door frame to get it out.

Can't help you with the washer but congratulations on the 50.

    Different boat, but...

We had to first remove the door, and then the door frame... latter both screwed and glued. PITA, but doable without damage (heat gun, putty knife...). That was to get the unit into its cubby.

Then there's a removable side panel in our adjacent stateroom... looks like a "wall" but it's actually installed with 4 spring-type door latches... so it's just a matter of pulling the sucker hard enough to get it off. That gave me room to make the connections.

I have a 2000 50. I replaced the original Kenmore washer (Not made anymore) with an RCA 2.0 cubic foot washer. It fit in the existing space with a bit of modification to the base as it was a little too tall. My original Kenmore Dryer still works well. I would be happy to share the details of the modifications to the base if you decide to proceed. I can also send you some pics if you would like. Note that this same washer is also branded as Magic Chef...

Just wondering, where does the hot humid dryer exhaust dump out ? I had one on my boat, like your Post , old GE unit double stacked. It was a hot humid mess when drying clothes, and the exhaust set up ''Ocean Yachts'' did was not so good. Nor could I ever see it being any good due to tight spaces. I removed it all, put in a freezer and nice storage space. Are the new units better designed now ?

The Combo washer/dryer are dreadful. They don't a wash or dry in any whichway.

On a boat we get loads of damp towels, they need doing 10 more often than a deep clean.

    Big dryer/smaller washer.

I plumbed our dryer (located in the head cabinet above the toilet on a 43) to use the same hull exhaust as the head exhaust fan. A one-way valve prevents the dryer exhaust from back-flowing into the shower (where the head exhaust intake is). We have run the dryer and it dries well and there is no humid air pushed into the head.

Vent-less dryers have been used before. What a disaster.

We just received our new GE washer & dryers for our Bert.
    23 3/4" wide.
Going to rub the varnish off the saloon doorway and break some backs moving them on, but look forward to them.
And, new metal overboard vent hose for the dryer.

For those installing new dryers, remember to keep neutral and ground separate and use the 4 pin power service.
It is SOP for neutral and ground to be strapped in the dryer. This will pop GFI service breakers at the newer power poles.

LOLOLOL, There is a Miele on one yacht I run. It has a bin that has to be dumped, it is on the top of the front of the dryer, which is above my head and I'm 6'3. It doesn't dry very well, and pulling the bin out to dump it is ALWAYS a fun experience.

Hey guys thank you for your input, on my boat the cabinet for the unit is in the forward stateroom to starboard just forward of the master head area and will only accommodate a single combo unit as the water heater is below under a hatch within the cabinet, I've seen pictures of other 50's with the same set up so I'm stuck with having to install a combo unit, I'll make sure I get a vented unit as it's pretty clear the ventless ones are not the best choice.
    Thanks again!

Is there room if you relocate the heater? That's a relatively easy thing to move.

A Washer/dryer seems like a very cool option on a boat under 60’

But we hardly ever use ours on our 46 Post

our dryer is ventless but there is an exhaust fan in the compartment that we turn on when we do use it.

We lived aboard for about a year and did laundry on land.

These small apt size units are really only effective for small loads and occasional use.

The way we use the boat, we might have friends or family staying aboard without us and changing out bedding/ laundry to have the boat ready for the next visit is a hassle for those unfamilar with finding an onshore laundry, we used our washer/dryer a lot on our 46'.
