Be wary of the 3196 Cats that are typically the power in the 48's. If it were me, I'd try to find one powered with the QSM-11's. See post at link below. http://www.yachtforums.com/forums/t...uit-bought-against-caterpillar.html#post37481

Sea Ray 480 Fuel Consumption Does anyone know what type of fuel consumption the sea ray 480 burns? Would appreciate your help. Thanks.
SoSueMe, I have moved your post under the first thread you started last week. There is no need to start another thread each time you have a question. More importantly, you will get a better response by staying within the same thread, as others people who have posted within the thread will be automatically notified of your new post. You are asking the fuel consumption of a boat that had two different motors in years 1998 to 2002 (Cats & Detroits) and then another brand of motor in the years that followed (Cummins). Unless you can be more specific in your questions, you may not find the answers you seek.
Reply to publisher Dear Sir/Madam: Sorry about continuously posting new threads. Im still learning how to use this forum. So whenever I have a comment to make, how do I post on the same thread? Also, I'll have to review your comment on being more specific with my fuel consumption request.
the truth about 48's Just a side note here. The 3196's were all updated and fixed as of 200-2001. I maintain several 48's newer than 2000 and have yet to see any damages occuring. I do know that they are a very wanted boat. There a perfect size for most families and are easy to work on with very good creature comforts compared to the price of a new boat.
Fuel Usage We have a 2002 480, with the Cummins QMS engines. They use about 22 gal per hour each at a cruise speed of about 30 mph. Out boating is on Lake Michigan. I don't know how this would compare in salt water. We love ours......
I haven't sea trialed a 48, but did a delivery on a 50 express last year. We had to get this run done on this day as the WX was going to be really snotty the next day. Well, came out of Fire Island inlet on the south shore of Long Island (NY) right into 5+ footers. Wind blowing from an easterly fetch so had it on the stern all the way to New York City. Thought this was going to be a bad ride with the seas on the port aft quarter. But this Sea Ray surprisingly ran very well. Enough weight to keep the stern into the seas a little without losing steerage. And relatively little slamming when topping off a wave. Some seas up to 6-7 feet, and boat stayed pretty dry. Ran the rollers nice and easy. Once past the Verrazano Bridge was in the lee and water calmed so we ran over 25 kts to Glen Cove. Forget what power was in it, but didn't skip a beat. Hope that helps.
Does anyone know how to access the top of (or pull out from the wall) the washer/dryer combo on a 1999 48 Sea Ray Sedan Bridge? A belt needs to be replaced.
I’m interested in knowing which engine is the most economical to run ! I’m going to purchase a 480 sedan bridge but I’m not sure if I should buy with Detroit’s or cat or Cummins ! Any help here would be appreciated.
Not trying to be glib. I don't think economical fits into the equation. The 48' Sea Ray Sedan Bridge does not sip fuel.
