    Should be interesting to see how hard the book gets thrown at him. What I am seeing in news articles was that the USCG boarded while enroute in the vicinity of the Whitestone Bridge for a safety equipment check. When asked if he had firearms onboard, he replied "Yes", and the CG then notified local authorities.

    Since I don't get up that way, I have no idea what the gun laws are.
    You can get arrested for guns that are secured in a vault?

    So, if We go north on our boat and visit this foreign land called NewYork, the Policia Militar can arrest us?

    The State of New York has pretty restrictive laws, and the City of New York even more so.

    Seems that the key word is "unlicensed". Does anyone know how New York treats weapons licensed in other states?

    If it had been licensed and not docking in NYC, it would have been allowed to pass. Now, if docking, a different story. And, if carrying, then arrest and a minimum of 3 1/2 years. And carrying, it doesn't matter how many states it's licensed in if not NY. See Plaxico Burress, although shooting himself in the leg didn't help his case. NYC now has the third lowest per capita shootings in the country.

    There is no weapon license in Florida or Georgia.
    I don't work on ATMs any more so I let my carry permit expire a couple of years ago.

    Don't think I'd ever travel to this confusing place NewYork.

    They were not docked but just passing thru. What is disturbing is that the USCG turned them in to state authorities even though the weapons were safely stored and declared to the boarding party

    This is new.

    Obviously there is no common sense. Even if a boat is docked at a NY Marina while in transit and weapons that are legal in other states are stored under lock it should be a problem.

    I guess the message is clear... I you have to go thru Comrade De Blasio Soviet city, make sure your weapons are locked iun a hidden safe and don't declare them if boarded

    The harbor around NYC is very carefully watched. We saw some of it this April, but really observed July 4, 2015.

    Was there any other safety issues discovered on their safety inspection on a 110 footer?
    While motor boating thru the area.

    Now some facts before any of you further condemn NY. The owner's carry permit for the guns had expired. The guns were in his safe. He had one handgun, two shotguns and a rifle. He was taken in, issued a ticket and released. Obviously the fact it was ticketed and not treated as a more serious crime says that they didn't make more out of it.

    Between the NYPD, the FBI Counter Terrorism Unit, the NY State Police and the Department of Homeland Security with USCG, I would have to think the five boroughs and Manhattan in particular, are the most heavily policed communities in the USA ...the most by a country mile. Probably the last place you want to bring firearms without having your docs in order. That would include the Hudson River, the East River and adjacent waterways.

    I think it's SOP for the Coast Guard to call in the local Harbor Police for law enforcement matters connected to a routine safety inspection.
