I don't think any of today's radios are bad. And all should be looked over. I'm a Simrad fan but their beyond warranty part support has bit me a few times lately. I still have fresh ic502 in the shop. Ic602 still in our fly bridge. Years after mfg, Icom has treated us well. Shakespeare made a good radio and still working on a boat I sold years ago. Standard is good also. I would shop for something that would easily fit the hole you are going to reuse and what options you like. Sorry i can not answer with a solid model or brand.
