Two Yachts Collide in Cannes Yesterday - One Fatality

I guess Memorial Day week end stupidity has spread beyond our borders.

Going fast in a large boat at night in an anchorage..... right. May his/her soul rest in peace. The operator of the moving vessel will have to look in the mirror every morning.

You haven't lived until you sea the flotilla breaking up after the 4th of July fireworks end in Annapolis harbor. 1000 boats jam packed together all start their engines and start moving NOW...... in the dark, after partying all day. I watched it from the docks of a marina safely tied up there.... HOLY COW.

Same here. And for New Years Eve which I guess isn’t much of an issue up there. We usually wait at least half an hour before heading home

Since this is France... he will be spending a few years looking at a non breakable mirror.

I read that the boat underway -- Vision -- was running at 20 knots through a crowded anchorage with a 5 knot speed limit. Very very sad about the deckhand.

Now docked up the New River awaiting repairs.

This is a bit surprising. I've been in that harbor during the GP a half-dozen times and as recently as last year. While you will see some sketchy tender piloting, I've found the actual yachts are remarkably well-behaved as 99% of them are run by pros. I'd say this accident is really out of character.

Yeah, they do tend to come down hard......
