I have a 52' hatteras that i am very eager to take on a week to week and a half long trip to Turtle Bay, Mexico. My question is what are people's experience with Turtle Bay? How is the marina, the people, the atmosphere, fishing (In summer) etc? I have heard that turtle bay used to be a complete dump but that recently the area has developed a little. Am i wasting my time on that trip? I had originally wanted to take the boat to Cabo but being that it is twice the distance and cost i am hesitant. Anyone's input on this destination would be great.
There is not much there. There is no marina. No paved streets. They have pangas that bring you fuel or you can med moor to the city dock. There are a few, like two or three, marginal restaurants. They do have a big baseball field. Provisions are minimal. I would consider it a village not a town. I consider it an achorage with a village to walk around just to get off the boat for a while. Fishing is fine but Thetus Bank out side of Bahia Santa Maria it great. Bahia Santa Maria has no sevices at all. I consider it a fishing camp. As far as Cabo goes, it is expensive but lots af fun.
A few years ago a floating dock was added to the pier in Turtle to ease the fueling process. Turtle is a great anchorage, great fishing spot and adequate fuel stop for an adventurous trip to Mx. If you cruise down to Santa Maria, you can get fuel at San Carlos inside Mag Bay. Again there is a pier for fueling but a more complicated process for paying for the fuel. You can actually clear Mx there if you so desire. San Carlos is slightly larger than Turtle. I have recent pictures of Turtle, San Pablo, Achunsion, Abreojoes and San Carlos if you want to PM me.
