Anyone have any experience going to these Islands? We're thinking about going here in the fall, and I just want to know if there is anything to see/do and if it's safe. I hear Tobago is gorgous because of the rain forest type landscape and great beaches, while Trinidad is very rich because of oil and gas export so there are many nice shopping centers and old hindi style buildings and such.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated

Hello Ferrarislave, I have gone to T&T about 6 times and I can say the islands are good. In terms of beaches, Trinidad doesn't have alot of them, Marracas Bay is a fairly good one that comes to mind. In terms of shopping areas, there is downtown Port of Spain (the capital) where there are about 3 or 4 paralleled streets for 'shopping.' You can start at the front on the Brian Lara Promanade and make your way up Frederick Street and so forth. On the other side of those streets the Savannah is located and the Trinidad Hilton somewhere out there. If you want more market type shopping you can go to a place called Chaguanas.

Yes it is true T&T uses oil and gas for export. You can also trying going to places like San Franando, St. James and there are pretty nice malls such as Trincity Mall and others..As for tobago I am not sure of there too much but what i can tell you is that you will have to catch a Ferry from Trinidad to get there or plane From here in Barbados there are some direct flights to Tobago. Tobago is a real paradise, white sand beaches, forrested and nice, good sight seeing, Aligators?

    Hope you enjoy your trip..

There is always a safety issue where ever you go however Trinidad was experiencing a spiral in crime but it is not terrible now it seems to have abated somewhat. I think people watch too much TV and take it literally. Anywhere you go you should always be on your P's and Q's so to speak. Here in Barbados, crime is not a big issue, it is said that we are one of the safest destinations? How true is that? we have crime like anywhere else but it is not rediculous. I'm quite sure if you ask any vacationers to Barbados they should tell you it was good.
