I recently heard of this product with formulas for cars, planes and yachts. http://www.triboscoatings.com/ It's not available in the US yet, anyone have any experience? Thanks, Marc
Hi Marc, While I don't have first hand experience with this particular product, I have written paint specifications for numerous vessels that have had similar protective coatings applied to prolong the gloss of the vessels top coat and can comment on the application of after paint treatments. Many paint protection systems have been introduced to the market in recent years - polymers, ceramics, diamonding and nanotechnology. These systems if selected and applied correctly will extend the life of your paint for a period of say 12 months or more depending on the vessels use before stripping the system and recoating. There are no miracle products out there yet that will take the place of a re-spray of fresh urethane and these types of systems employ the use of rotary or dual action machines for the application that will destroy the top 1 or two mils. of your topcoat so once you have a system applied there's no going back. The polymer coatings are a 4 step process that's labor intensive to apply and costly. When you finally are ready to prep for a fresh paint job these polymer systems are hard to remove and can be spread and become embedded by the sanding process and really make a mess of things if not dealt with properly. To make certain the substrate is clean and free of these contaminates to prep for new paint you have to scrub the vessel with a cleanser & Scotch bright pad and then medium PSI pressure wash the vessel. If you read the warranty requirements for the care and feeding of these systems you'll really get a better picture of the limitations of the systems and the limitations placed on you to maintain the warranty. Take a look @ Tribos "Marine Warranty" and click the link for "after care" for a great example of this. No soft yellow bristle brush, only a micro fiber hand mitt, no circular motion when washing etc.
