Hello All: I am looking for a GPS tracking device to install on a 33' Whaler that will be used as a yacht tender in the Bahamas. I have looked a Spot Trace, all looks good, but it appears you need internet access in order to track if the tender is stolen. As most of you know, that is not always possible in the Bahamas. (I am waiting for a reply from Spot concerning this question.) Any comments and recommendations? Additionally, will be looking for a fool-proof kill switch or similar to prevent the engines from being started in the first place. I know many yacht tenders have this feature but I am not familiar with the latest and greatest? Any and all input will be appreciated. Chuck
If they want to steal it, they're going to steal it. I think a better bet would be a rubber coated heavy duty cable and a lock to something secure.
Hello Chuck We have a racker with kill switch from Siren Marine and are really happy with this system. Last month that save a boat form a friend. Really reasonable prix and powerful tool. You can contact Dan Admin Edit: Email Removed. http://sirenmarine.com
Kill switch is easy, can be put in just about anywhere hidden the under the helm... Chances are that if your tender is stolen in the Bahamas it will be in a place with Internet access like Nassau Cable and padlock are useless, neighbor of mine had a 13 foot rib stolen while they were sleeping ... They just cut off the cable. If you use a cable, run a wire inside the the vinyl sheeting connected to 120v
I've noticed on a lot of web sites the designer put a "contact us" button but never told the customer about it. You hit the button, it sends off an email but there is nobody to receive it.
Good point. Maybe that's the reason so many websites never reply to any questions you send via their GUI's.
