So you can't leave Sunset Marina? Head up to the Grand Banks/Palm Beach Service Center? My boat is stuck at the Allied dock?
Thanks for the heads up 993RSR. It appears they are shutting down the southbound lanes of the bridge, leaving the northbound lanes to serve double duty. This will present a real bottleneck for both commuters and boaters in Martin County. The population in the area has exploded in recent years. During rush hour, the bridge can back up with a hundred cars sitting still on the span.
I have a clients boat at Apex (Allied) docks waiting for some parts so we can head to Palm Beach Gardens. The skipper is confident we can pass through the Roosevelt bridge, east bound without serious delay. We will see.
Found a broadcast and page and the statement there is that the CG is stopping any commercial maritime traffic until it is deemed safe. Guess he can get through and we don't care if it's safe for recreational traffic. lol
Hmm, this owner may like a ton of concrete crashing through his boat. Occupants could be in the tender with breast lines safe and sound. Wait ... would the insurance company pay the claim knowingly navigating under a failing bridge? Apex is a nice spot. I like trains.
I'm sure within a day or two they'll know more about the immediate risk to boats. As to auto traffic, this could be a major issue for a long time.
"A well-traveled South Florida bridge is not at risk of imminent collapse, authorities said this week, diverging from the US Coast Guard's warning that the bridge would soon fail." https://www.cnn.com/2020/06/18/us/florida-roosevelt-bridge-not-risk-collapse-trnd/index.html
The security zone has been lifted has authorities have determine the section as risk isn’t over the channel
