I recently bought a 1982 42' Post and in the bilge when walk down the steps into the galley there's a white PVC pipe with a stopper in the end. Does anyone know what this is for?

    can you send a pic?

Post used white 4 in PVC pipe as runners for electrical wires and plumbing.

also, PVC is used for the stern for emergency bilge pick up plumbed to the engine intake.

If its running along near the keel butt, It's a fore and aft connection for drainage. Should have something like a runabout's drain plug in it that you can remove. May want to snake it if you haven't used it for a while.

Beau is right, it could be a bilge drain for under your fuel tank or ER so fuel or oil doesn't mix with bilge water.

    a pic would really help

RT, that's what it is in mine.

Before you pull the plug, you should get a diaper or 2 ready just in case there has been an oil spill or leakage from the cartridge filters.
Next you should replace the cartridge filters with spin on's !

    Congrats on the new boat.

It is the drain for the compartments under the fuel tanks. Bilge water actually runs through a separate pipe under each tank so it doesn't get contaminated by a leak or spill. Should pull the stopper once or twice a year and drain out any water\oil\fuel that may have gotten under the tanks.

Best to do it while in the water because it will have the natural downward slope to drain it.

I keep mine open so the compartment drains.... Don't want anything sitting in water all season.
