Typically on yachts above a certain size you will find Access Rail Systems like Harken Rails...which are pretty common for maintenance of the exterior of the boat. There are also built in rails too...what are the pros and cons of each system...is one better than the other or popularity makes people choose one over the other?
I don't believe that hand rails are approved by flag states any longer. The tracks require load testing every year in order to ensure safety of the crew.
So for example... in the case of "Silver Lining" in her state in the above picture, she would have had to convert those built-in rails to Harken or some other similar system?
If they are being used for over the side, most likely. Cayman is has gotten very restrictive on these. You need pre-installation testing and post installation testing. For older boats this has gotten very expensive as you have to recreate the vessel section ashore and have it tested. For series boats that the company is still in business, they have been able to get a blanket approval for all of their boats.
