I owned a 1981 42 Post with a bimini instead of a hardtop. My boat was a knot or two faster than others with a hardtop. Beware that the weight and resistance may likely slow you down a little.

I liked my bimini top just fine. When I replaced it, I raised the frame up six inches or so to give me more headroom.

I don't know who you are considering to do the job but do your homework and get references. I had a good experience with Atlantic Towers in NJ but a friend of mine did not.

Check with the guys up in Essex. They should be able to tell you if it's even a good idea.

Thanks all for your inputs here ... NYCAP, who are you suggesting I contact in Essex ? ...

FYI - no decision yet, just have a few "ballpark $$" estimates ...
