portevergladeswebcam.com is showing live webcam action of the beginning of the Port Everglades dredging project. Watching this project unfold is going to make for some excellent port watching as superyachts and cruise ships play dodge the dredge!! So far today the dredge has taken samples from several locations in the turning basin and from the channel entering the turning basin from the ocean. From: http://www.navcen.uscg.gov/pdf/lnms/lnm07062013.pdf FLORIDA-FORT LAUDERDALE-PORT EVERGLADES: Dredge Operations. Great Lakes Dredge Company will begin dredge operations in Port Everglades; including the Entrance Channel, Intracoastal Waterway, and various dockside locations around the Port. Operations will begin on or around February 20 and will continue until approximately April 8, 2013. The dredge “TEXAS” will operate 24 hours a day/7 days a week. During the duration of the project a loading barge will be positioned just north of the boat ramp and docks at John Lloyd State Park. Dredge equipment may be obstructing the waterways at times but will not take up more than half of the federal channel. Contractors will be monitoring marine channel 14 and 16. POC for the project is Mr. Matt Jack (630) 209-9862. Mariners are urged to minimize wake and proceed with extreme caution. Chart 11470
I remember the USS Kennedy coming in with like a foot under her keel back in the 90's. Boy was their bridge crew drunk that night. This could cut down on the bridge crew's bar bills during Navy week.
