Pencil Zincs

    Detroit 671 TI motors...found 2 pencil zincs at the raw water intake cooler...where are the locations of the rest? Ideas?

    I have 1 on the transmission oil cooler, one on the fuel cooler, one just after the raw water pump and one on the main heat exchanger. 1980 - 671.

    Thanks...where on the heat exchanger? Side at the intake or outflow? Do you have to drain the coolent to change out? My motors are 1983 so probably the same

    It's on the raw water side not the coolant side.
    I hold a bucket under the plug and remove it, get a gallon or so of water.
    Mine has 2 plugs but I've only ever had 1 zinc from new.
    It has never been depleted when changing it out.
    In fact, they look so good I am tempted to leave it in a while but I never do.

    Found the one on the heat exchanger...on the front about 2 inches from the wall...fuel system still looking

    Mine are inboard of the top of the engine. They are ahead of the secondary filter and aft of the stop solenoid. Follow the fuel line from the secondary filter.

    What are the sizes of these zincs? I will be at the store tomorrow and can get them for the 671's in my boat.

    Mine has 3 different sizes
