I can't remember where I first posted my problems with this generator, but it doesn't matter, this is an fyi thread anyway.

When I bought my boat, the previous owner had removed the starter. I assume it was due to a problem and he couldn't find a replacement. I have encountered the same problem, until now.

The 80's model white Onan 6.5 Gen-Set is what I have. The Onan part number for the starter is 191-1246. While that part has been discontinued since 1993, I have found a replacement. Wilson starters are USA made, and available at O'Reilly's and Auto-Zone. The replacement part number at Wilson is 91-06-1895. You can find them online in the 235.00 range and retail at the 300.00 range. Finding this is truly a needle in a haystack matter.

Please be cautious!!!! it's probably not a ignition proof starter! Just because the bolt pattern matches doesn't mean is approved for a engine compartment! It could be a gas leak ignition source

It is advertised to replace part # 191-1246. I am only assuming that the original was a marine part, so the latter has to be also.
