Members of this forum come from different countries and cultures, which means that names and terms can get lost in translation. As the song has it 'I say tom-ah-toe you say tom-ay-doe'. In photography, Americans say Nigh-con (Nikon) - Europeans say Nick-on. (Which, incidentally is correct as the cameras are made by the Nippon [Nip-on] Corporation). The same applies to yachting - for example:- Is Rybovich pronounced Rye-bow-vitch or Rib-o-vitch (or any other variation)? Is Burger as in ham-burger or Burr-jerr? Do we say Perini Navv-ee or Nay-vee? I'm sure there are many more and I feel it would be useful to have a definitive lectionary for members of different languages to refer to. Over to you…
