  1. "Social Distancing"; The First Cape50
"Social Distancing" is the name of the first Cape50 yacht. Okay...so you might just be wondering with a name like that, the yacht was probably birthed during the current Covid-19 pandemic. Social Distancing was designed and built in Australia to meet real boating conditions by Steve Campbellā€™s Composites Constructions yard. They began work on the direct female mould for the first hull in January of 2019. Since then the hull that came out of that mould represents the first Cape50 called Social Distancing.
  2. Construction is entirely composite for the most part utilizing vinylester, resin-infused technology. There is carbon fiber usage in certain parts of the boat like the coachhouse roof and all of the structural window mouldings along with the dashboard by the helm. Overall, thanks to this relatively light-weight construction the boat comes in at 12,500 kg lightship displacement. Social Distancing was completed during the height of the pandemic and was christened appropriately, Social Distancing.
  3. The lightweight construction and lightweight Volvo Penta engines ( two Volvo Penta IPS600s) , the top speed with this Cape50 is in the mid-30-knot range. At present hull two of the Cape50 is being worked on and delivery could be as soon as around Christmas this year. By next year, another two hulls should go into production to be available. Composites Constructions actually are actually building two Cape models, the Cape50 as well as the smaller Cape40 which comprise the range so far.
  4. Ironically Social Distancing was expected to premier at the Sydney Boating Festival but that show recently got cancelled distancing the premier of this first hull. These boats are semi-customizable which should allow owners to change the colour of the paint work to some degree and have different layouts onboard. Towards the bow on the lower deck you will find the main cabin and just aft of this cabin you will find a smaller cabin on the starboard side. LOA is 50-feet while the beam is 14.3-feet.
