  1. Glistening New Sailing Yacht "A" Coming Together at Nobiskrug
The highly-secretive Sailing Yacht "A" is quickly coming together at the German yard Nobiskrug. As much speculation circulated as to the complete type of superyacht she will be, that was definitively confirmed when photos of three insanely large masts emerged from Magma Structures UK facilities. Okay, with that part of the puzzle fitted it was safe to know she was going to be some kind of sail vessel. It was also safe to assume she will be a motor-sailer as with her huge size and displacement, sails alone won't be able to propel her very quickly. Already one of the Magma Structures masts have been stepped. The large booms are manufactured by Future Fibers while the enormous sail-plan is being finalized by Doyle Sails. What is also known now is that the name of this motor-sailer will be "A". Yes, this project is being built for out-of-the-box owner Andrey Melnichenko -but we knew this already-.

The three-masted sail-assisted superyacht is of epic proportions for Andrey and Aleksandra being quite larger than their present pure motoryacht "A". The motor-sailer stretches as long as 471-feet long compared that to their 119-meter (392-foot) motoryacht. The beam is also very capacious spanning an insane 82.10-feet or around 24.8-meters. Her draft is in the region of 8-meters and has a GT of approximately 12,700.
  2. Dykstra Naval Architects were enlisted to deal with the sailing aspects of the design -keel, rig and overall sail infrastructure. Not surprisingly, Philippe Starck was the Melnicheko's go-to designer after having a successful build with him already. Starck is clearly the designer to utilize for ground-breaking and totally different designs. After the first A, Starck went on to design another yacht for a very high-profile owner, the "Venus". As a sail assisted yacht her main propulsion will come from power. Sailing Yacht "A" is fitted with a hybrid propulsion system comprised of diesel-electric set-up. Twin main 3,600 Kw MTU marine diesels linked with twin 4,300 Kw electrical motors. Sailing Yacht A is anticipated to run at a top speed of 21-knots and generally fast cruise at 16-knots. When sea-trials come around we will know just how much the sail-plan assists this massive superyacht. Overall, her range is expected to be over 5,300 nautical miles.

Like her pure motoryacht sister A, sailing yacht A has numerous hatches and shell doors covering garages, ports and working parts to preserve her rather sleek and interesting appearance. Although when closed, it may not appear like it, but the bridge is accompanied by slide-out bridgewings to allow the officers to maneuver this massive yacht in close quarters much easier. The interior concept is not known yet but surely will cause as much or even more intrigue as the first yacht did. As many 54 crew members can be slept onboard the new A. There will be also a helipad onboard believe it or not. Therefore the classification for this superyacht is tight! (Maltese Cross) 100A1 Passenger ship Sail Assisted, (Maltese Cross) LMC UMC and (Maltese Cross) 100A1 Yacht Mono G6 round out her extensive classification. Look out for the new sailing assisted superyacht A being delivered in 2016.
