  1. 34-meter "Lady Lene" Build Progress
The 34-meter "Lady Lene" is presently under construction at the Van der Valk yard. The last time we spoke about this yacht was after she was signed into construction, so here is a look at the general progress on this build so far. This yacht is on track for completion in 2022 although late 2021 was previously floated as the delivery time frame. The design of Lady Lene is by Guido de Groot and one of the stand-out features this yacht will have is the Hull Vane.
  2. The owner of the yacht is a repeat client of this yard and opted to go with the fuel-saving appendage on this build. In fact, it is being calculated that the owner stands to save 12.5 percent on fuel while cruising at approximately 11-knots. Lady Lene will be the second Van der Valk hull to feature the Hull Vane -after that was first installed on the 2019-built 32-meter "Jangada"-. Onboard Lady Lene will feature accommodation for up to ten guests in five cabins with the VIP on the upper deck and the full-beam master on the lower deck. The other cabins are two doubles and a single cabin -on the lower deck too-.
  3. Performance wise, Lady Lene is anticipated to be a decent performer. In fact Ginton Naval Architects who are working on the build say with the Hull Vane her performance is going to be further enhanced. "It is unusual for an explorer-type vessel to have a Fast Displacement hull as the LWL is so important at these speeds, we 'cut the hull horizontally' at a level around the waterline and scaled it in the length, creating a wave-piercing – not bulbous – bow and a longer submerged hull. Extensive research also concluded that we could save over 12.5% on fuel consumption at 11-knots by installing a Hull Vane appendage as well as reduce wake and pitch in head seas."
  4. Special features to be found onboard Lady Lene besides the performance-enhancing Hull Vane are a bridge-deck VIP suite -a bit odd for this type of vessel-. The yacht will be wheelchair friendly with a special elevator accessing all decks. While there is no jacuzzi on deck, the aft main provides the majority of entertainment and lounging space onboard for guests. The upper aft deck is for the VIP guest and is a private terrace. Subject to the remainder of the construction process remaining on track, this vessel should be launched in December 2021 with completion in 2022.
