  1. Batteries Included; Nordhavn N46MKII
Nordhavn introduced the new N46MKII which is essentially re-imagining of the N46 model for modern times. One of the highlights with this model is that this is the first and only Nordhavn model that will come with Lithium Ion batteries as standard from the factory. Nordhavn suggests though that many of their newer models are now coming with the option to have Lithium Ion batteries added onboard however it is not standard from the yard.
  2. Nordhavn’s Engineering Manager Mike Telleria says the lithium ion batteries will give the N46 II at least two or three days of life on the hook between charges. Thanks to plenty of alternator, battery, and inverter power the need to run the generator underway will be very minimal and often not necessary at all – even on hot days with the air conditioning running! “Around seventy-five percent of our boats are being built with optional lithium ion batteries,” Telleria says. “It’s where the market is going. With the N46 II we saw an opportunity to cost-effectively include them as standard equipment.”
  3. The inclusion of Li-Ion technology is one way Nordhavn’s newest model represents the future of boat design. Another is its near “CE ready” status upon leaving the factory, meaning it meets all the major requirements needed for European Union CE compliance. In addition to meeting the stringent standards set by the American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC) to adhere to when building boats for the U.S. market, “CE compliance requires some specific features, including verifiable scantling calculations for strength, a lamination quality-control process, stability calculations and testing, and fire safety features above what is required in the U.S.,” Telleria explains. “The N46 will include all this and more, making it easier to produce for the EU market while of course meeting all the U.S. (ABYC) standards we already build to.”
  4. The main differences emerge from the advantages of experience, wisdom, and state-of-the-art technology that come with time. That means the new N46 II will be much better than the original N46 in many ways. The new model will be equipped with twin engines that won’t reduce efficiency but offer better safety and reliability than her predecessor’s single screw. The newly designed underbody improves steering, while modern materials increase hull strength and provide a quieter ride. Newly thought-out space planning has resulted in a near walk-in engine room and fuel tanks with over 30 percent more capacity for greater range at higher speeds. The evolution of the electrical system, along with the incorporation of lithium-ion batteries, means proportional controls for thrusters and longer stretches away from power hook-ups without needing to run the generator. The new 46 II also includes as standard a full-size washer/dryer, air conditioning, diesel heat, and stabilizers. Hull number 1 of the N46 II is expected to be shipped to Florida in March, 2026.
