  1. 140-meter "Solaris" Launched At Lloyd Werft
The latest build to emerge from the Lloyd Werft facilities is the 140-meter "Solaris". Earlier this month there was progress on the removal of the weave of scaffolding and tenting from around the yacht suggesting the yard was preparing to launch the widely anticipated superyacht. The exact length of this large explorer yacht has been in dispute as she moved closer to launching with different sources suggesting different lengths from 137-meters even up to 145-meters. It does appear her length is closer to 140-meters. Sporting an exterior design by Marc Newson the otherwise contemporary exterior is jazzed up with a prominent fashion plate that rises from the forward midships upper deck all the way up and arches over to meet with the mast. It is surely Solaris' defining exterior design feature. The first image is by yacht photographer Dr. Duu.
  2. Solaris has been under construction for a well-known owner who is no stranger to building and owning very large superyachts. Some features that can be seen around the exterior include a large door designed with horizontally grilled bars located in the prominent fashion plate. It serves to hide the SOLAS tenders behind. On deck you will notice just one principal helipad on the aft upper deck, a departure from the two helipads found on the owners previous explorer superyacht. What is different is there appears to be a hangar to house the helicopter located just forward of the helipad. Although the aft main deck is covered in tenting, it appears there is a large pool located on this deck. An expansive beach club is located one deck below on the aft lower deck. Another departure from the owners previous explorer is the paint scheme, instead of a flag blue hull it appears a lighter grey has been selected for the hull with darker Grey tones finishing the upper mast and grilled sections of the SOLAS tender doors and forward and aft mast arch. The interior is voluminous as you would expect measuring just over 11,000 GT (11,011GT). A length of 140-meters and a very healthy beam of 21.55-meters contribute to high-volume internals. Powering the yacht is via ABB azimuthing podded propulsion. Top speed is expected to be around the 18 or 19-knot mark but sea trials will confirm this. Solaris was expected to hit the water in early March. As more information comes to hand YF will keep you updated.
