  1. Pilothouse 46 By Helmsman Trawlers
It is an interesting story how the first hull of the Helmsman Pilothouse 46 came about. After the yard had seen good success with their smaller models such as the 37, 38 variants (pilothouse and sedan) and 43, customers started to ask for more especially in the realm of space and volume onboard. Literally, it is inquiries from customers along these lines that helped move Helmsman Trawlers in the direction of creating the Pilothouse 46. In fact the first hull called "Kiskadee" is now owned by a client who inquired about a bigger boat.
  2. The owner's previous boat was also from Helmsman, a 38E model. However, after consultation about needing more space to be able to comfortably conduct maintenance and extra storage the client went in the direction of the Pilothouse 46. At the time, there wasn't a Pilothouse 46 sitting down waiting for a customer to purchase it. When the owners acquired their 38E this was the case as that boat was in existence as a boat show display model.
  3. The Pilothouse 46 despite the model name is actually 50.1-feet long overall. An overall beam of around 16.3-feet and a draft of just 5-feet make her a very comfortable boat to be on but with dimensions that are friendly to permitting travel in shallower waters and smaller marinas. In terms of layouts, the Pilothouse 46 is believed to come in 2 or 3 stateroom configurations. The interiors are traditional and woody which plays into the theming of the vessel authentically. She has a fuel capacity for approximately 800 GAL or 3,028 LT. There is 1,135 LT capacity storage for fresh water onboard as well.
  4. In terms of power, the Pilothouse 46 is run by a single 500 horse power John Deere 6090. 11-knots is close to the top speed of this model but it is most efficient at 8-knots. The Pilothouse 46 has an interesting design where there are generous side decks from the bow moving aft however, only up to a certain point. The main saloon onboard stretches nearly the full-beam of the vessel which is responsible for that very room feel in the saloon. There is still a small ledge left on the side big enough to maneuver you feet on. To help make traversing outside of the main saloon easier and safer there is a grab rail that runs directly above.
