'Explorer 56' Polar Ketch Unveiled By Dixon Yacht Design

Dixon Yacht Design has unfurled a new design to the public that involves a 56-meter sailing ketch designed for exploration. Usually sailing yachts are not designed to have 'exploration capabilities' but this concept design also known as 'Explorer 56' tries to buck that notion while offering all the luxury expected on a yacht this size. In fact, Dixon has this yacht to be built with a Polar Class C hull. While it is by far not the most sturdy in the polar code designation it will permit this yacht to cruise both high and low latitudes of this globe in the Summer months.

The yacht's on-deck space is phenomenal especially aft of the superstructure. Despite being designed for sailing in colder climes the yacht is an all-weather use platform. It features glass jacuzzis both on the aft main deck and up on the flybridge/sundeck. For getting ashore when at anchor or watersports activities there are two tenders stored under the foredeck measuring around 6.3-meters. The aft has a dedicated jetski garage hidden under the deck as well. The ski can be deployed using an Opacmare transformer. That transformer also serves to help guests get on and off the vessel from the stern or even to get into and out the water.

The Explorer 56 can provide extra energy while it is under sail too. With a smart energy recovery system in place the yacht can utilize its pair of SPS Hundested 400kWh sail drive units to serve to provide power for propulsion or powering elements of the hotel load while sailing. The flybridge/sundeck has a pair of helm stations while there is the main navigation bridge one deck below. Guests can be accommodated in five cabins onboard with the prize being the full-beam master suite.
