  1. "Aurelia"; First CdM Flexplorer Launched
The first unit in a new line from Italian builder CdM has been launched and bears the name "Aurelia". The yacht is from the yard's new Flexplorer line -which you can read into as meaning Flexible Explorer-. Aurelia really looks like many of the CdM vessels before her...keeping that yard DNA but there is one key difference that is easily seen. On the end of the aft main deck there is an A-Frame crane reminiscent of those utilized in the offshore or scientific/research applications.
  2. This is perhaps where the Flexplorer concept comes alive. Most yachts of this type usually uses a standard type of crane to handle its toys and tenders on and off the back of the main deck. Whether it be beefed-up davit or a knuckle-boom these types are more common but an A-Frame at the stern definitely isn't common on yacht applications. What is more, the bulwarks on the aft main deck can fold downwards opening up the space even further, lending more value to the flexplorer name. Imagine how the crew can fit this space with outdoor furniture when the tenders are in the water.
  3. The design of Aurelia is by Hydro-Tec while the interior is by staple designer Francesco Paszkowski. As many as twelve guests can be slept onboard in ten cabins. Yes, there are two pullman berths to accommodate the extra two guests. Performance is anticipated to be 14-knots using a pair of CAT C32 diesels. The range should be in the region of 5,000 nautical miles when dialed back to conservative autonomous 10-knots speed. Construction is in steel for the hull and aluminium for the superstructure. With a length just under 40-meters she has a beam of 8.5-meters and that A-Frame crane has a capacity of up to 2,500 KG for a tender up to 8.5-meters.
