New to boating, any info helpful

Hry I am currently a teacher in Thailand and am looking to start my boating career. I am taking the STCW in October but after that I am unsure of what to do to work on a boat. I understand that once I either move to the Mediterranean or Florida a lot of it is luck to land a job on a nice yacht. Is there any advice that anyone could give me to help things? I would plan to move to the med after the October course, is there a lot of work to be done even in the off seasons? Thanks and again any information is helpful
