New Launch: Fitzroy Yachts launch 50M "Ohana"

Fitzroy Yachts launch 50-meter flybridge sailyacht “Ohana”​

This time is it the turn of Fitzroy Yachts with the unveiling of the Project known as ‘G50’ which of course is known by her final name, “Ohana”. July 2010 Fitzroy Yachts started work on G50, a 50-metre Flybridge Sloop that will be ready for delivery in 2012. The European owner approached Fitzroy directly to build his latest sailing yacht.

Fitzroy Yachts commissioned Dubois Naval Architects to design G50, with interior design and styling by the owner. Fitzroy have collaborated with Dubois on many of their boats including the international award-nominated 45m "Salperton IV", and the recently launched 50-meter "Zefira".

As said, the interior is by the owner providing a modern and clean atmosphere for guests and themselves to enjoy. The joinery work is done in WhiteWashed Oak and other elements come together for a clean natural look. Accommodation according to Fitzroy is in one Owners Stateroom, five guest cabins, four aft and one forward. Four cabins are for the crew members.

She’ll be running on a single Cat C32 1450 BHP @ 2300RPM. The 49.7-meter sloop has a beam of nearly 10-meters overall (9.96-meters) and a draft of 5.5-meters since the keel is fixed. The rig for Ohana is by Southern Spars. She is expected to have sheets by Doyle and Stratis and once fully outfitted full sail top speed is anticipated at 18-knots.

Ohana boasts a grey hull with black underwater hull and fixed bulb keel. The boot thread line is in yellow as well as the decorative Fitzroy hull stripe. Black masked windows on the main deck superstructure match well with the draft of Ohana. She is already in the water and has been doing preliminary sea trials. Soon she will travel to Auckland to have her mast stepped and associated rigging then further sea trials will occur to test the sail plan and other components. Delivery is set speedily for December 2012.
