Thanks Capt Ralph and that is what I am thinking and I am having issues with the black pump. At the lower helm when I switch the pump on it throws the breaker which I thought was because the motor was locked up or the plunger was stuck. If that is what the switch is I plan to disconnect it in case it is creating a short when the lower main black pump switch is activated.
Or, the sea cock is closed, as it should be when in NDZs. I assume new boat to you? Time to look over these little things well.
Actually, the sea cock should not just be closed in an NDZ, it should be closed AND locked whenever within 3 miles of shore . NDZs only apply to discharge of treated waste … looks like an IKEA instruction flyer designer was hired by whoever manufactured that switch but yes it seems to be for the overboard discharge pump what kind of pump is it ? Bellow pumps rarely trip breakers. If turned on with a closed valve they will usually force the duckbills reversed. troubleshooting 101, disconnect the pump, activate the switch and see if it still trips the breaker. If yes, the second switch or wiring is the issue, if not it s the pump.
If it is the Jabsco macerator pump they will frequently lock up and throw the breaker. On one end of the pump you can turn the pump shaft with a regular screw driver. That will often free the pump up and it will now work properly and not throw the breaker. A cordless drill with a regular screw driver bit works even better. I don’t get more than a couple of years out of these pumps so I carry a spare at all times.
The Jabscos are junk. They can’t run dry for more than a few seconds either. Not worth it. The sealand bellow pumps are a few $ more but well worth it.
I will consider the Sea land option. Don’t know how much re-plumbing they will require and if there space to accommodate their larger size.
That pump (mud hog) will pop its breaker if the sea-cock is closed. Oh, I'm a bit slow today. Cool air and Orion has not smiled at me yet; It's a Mut. Nope, not Jabsco junk, Not sea land. It's a WOP Pump. I used to manage a later Hatt and the owner went thru the near same issue on a similar looking pump. Zero point five second to pop that breaker with sea-cock closed. Lets open that sea cock and try for a couple of seconds after the marina pumps out your black water tank. If it runs and blows air under your boat, all is good. If it still pops the breaker, lets get it fixed or replaced then. Pending your purchase deal, the meat heads at Marine Max may be your first (only) exact part support.
