I just found out that Jim Gray is missing. He's one of those truly genuine, helpful people that you don't meet many of. Please keep an eye open. http://www.helpfindjim.com/ Thanks.
Codger, I'm sorry to say but the Coast Guard and a private group have called off their search for Jim. They searched for three weeks, and found no sign of Mr Gray or his vessel, the 40-foot sailboat Tenacious. Reports state that he headed out on a solo cruise to scatter his mother's ashes at sea. He left from San Franscisco, headed for the Fallon Islands, 25 miles west of the Golden Gate bridge.
Thanks CaptTom I was brought up to speed on the search. I just thought that I'd post here in the hopes that someone on this board might come across him and his boat. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
Yes, I was reading this the other day, I think it was in the Mercury journal or something, and found it very strange that a 40 foot red sailing boat can disappear completely? The Google Earth guys have scanned the satellite images as well so if he is not hiding somewhere, the boat must be lost. The fact he had an EPIRB and VHF and cellphone and still no trace, indicates he could have been run over by a ship, but without debris left on the surface this is not really realistic either? I hope he just had it for a while and will show up one day....
