Are there any limitations on a yacht cruising to this area from the East Coast? LOA: 95' Beam: 26' Draft: 9' Air draught: a lot Thanks! Judy
You'd have to take the St. Lawrence seaway to get their. Dockage is going to be a VERY limiting factor due to size and finding a marina with enough depth is going to be another real issue in that area.......but You should be able to get and cruise their.
Currently the depths in the Lakes are at record lows. That's affecting many harbor entrances and marinas. From what I'm reading many of Michigan's are particularly affected. Reading charted depths is also different than coastal cruising. I'm currently planning to do some Lakes cruising with a 5' draft and updating my education a bit for it. May I suggest this NOAA site for reference: Current Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Water Levels I expect to be calling ahead to marinas for local knowledge quite a bit. As Capt.J mentioned your vessel will be entering and leaving via the Welland Canal and the St. Lawrence due to its air draft.
Thanks for the responses. I knew I could count on YFers for the answers and add-ons. Will let you know if the new owners to be need crew to get the vessel there - could be a dynamic captain duo. Judy
Michigan Bay Harbor NY Cap not sure if the news about flooding of Trent Canal has made the news up your way. Flooding in Ontario cottage country | Toronto Star Have a safe trip. Rodger
Thanks Rodger. I hadn't heard the news, but noticed this morning that the level was 26" above chart datum. Made us wonder if we'll be able to clear the bridges. We heading out on our first leg (up to Trenton) end of May, but will be holding there until begining of July. Hopedully by the the lever will have dropped a bit or you may see us down on the Welland. Thanks for the heads up.
