The sailing snobs of the North-East aren't at all happy about this, but given the choice to spend Spring in brisk New England or sunny South Florida, what would you choose?

Personally I would have thought Fort Lauderdale/Port Everglades would be the more obvious choice, but they either didn't submit a bid, or security issues would have been too much of a hassle.

well, Port Everglade is too remote, too secure and frankly really not attractive between the container ship and those ugly floating tourist containers. Bicentenial Park is within walking distance of downtown, bayside and all the new development just north of downtown, it doesn't get better than that for visitors and crews.

What's the water depth in the area of Bicentennial Park? More specifically, how far offshore will the VO70s have to go for their in-port race?

bicentenial is just off the turning basin, so plenty off water. they'll just have to head up Gov Cut and can race jsut offshore South Beach. no differnent than they would in FTL. will be quite a sight to have teh boat parading down gov cut.

the waterfront is really coming along nicely in Miami with pathways, parks and facilities all along, unlike Ft Lauderdale.
