It appears I have a sticking thermostat on one of the engines. It will read a lot cooler than the other engine. 30 degrees or more until I get up to cruise speed and then they both run the same 190degrees.
Anyone know where the thermostat is located on this engine?

Page 41 in my MAN D 2848 LE 423 Repair Manual.
That is a bad scan. There are a few thermostats in there.

Are you saying there is more than one in each engine? How do I tell which one is bad?

I think your engine has 2, I would replace all of them in both motors with your age and hours. How long has it been since the coolant has been changed as well?

    The pic shows 3.
Comments on the page I copied mentions heating them up in a pot of water. I used to do that with a candy thermometer when I was a kid.
These look like the tube units found on ole DDCs. Sometimes the tube (cup for some folks) distorts and jams. Easily observed by eyeball. Usually they stick open.
New seals, wipers and O rings required to reassemble.

Call Pref Diesel in Texas with your serial. Greg will put a kit together for you.

Also once you put everything back together you will have to pump the coolant system back up with an air pump on the shrader valves......I believe to 16psi. I would recommend hiring a mechanic knowledgable with Man's to change them if you're not familiar with doing it.

Rcrapps- Aren't you close enough to St. Aug to do the work for him?

Think Skip is near New Smyrna. Still in range. I'm on MLOA for another 4 to 6 weeks. Rotator cuff and pandoras box was rearranged in my right shoulder.

I can suggest a great tech if needed. He's from Jax but in Melbourne / Port Canav often.

It might have two as someone else mentioned that in the Bahamas. It is an 8 cylinder so maybe each bank has one. Coolant was replaced approximately 3 years ago. If it has two thermostats I will replace both.
