built by Kerstholt, Holland, 1961 Does anyone have any info on John Hacket or the Kerstholt yard in Holland? Thank you Jage
yard Well, If you translate this from Dutch, you'll get an idea. There's even a book about the history of this yard. Prince Reineir from Monaco placed an order for a luxury yacht and during the last test run there was a fire. That was the beginning of the end. http://www.noordboekwinkel.nl/produ...id=96&osCsid=1745e61524433a283fe88dc1e8f14c18
Balboa and techmati, thanks for your replies. That's too bad about that fire in 1963 on Prince Reineir's yacht. The Velos was completed two years prior to that. It was commissioned as a steel yacht capable of 24 knots. The buyer that commisioned the yacht refused delivery because it was not able to reach speeds of 24 knots. The yacht however, was capable of 18 knots despite what is stated in the brochure I provided. I thought that was pretty impressive for a steel yacht of that vintage. I surmise the ride wasn't that good at those speeds which I believe was th reason they stabilized the yacht in 1975 and then added ballast to further improve the ride. Thanks again Jage
M/y Velos In Crete My name is Stefanos and i was born in 1981. Velos came in Crete-Greece in 1980 and my father bought a partnership for this boat as it was converted from a luxurious yacht into a tourist boat. I spend most of my summers as a child on this boat which still exist!
