    Octopus refit

I read through another site that Octopus is going in for a refit.
Apparently it is now in St. Nazaire at the Penhoet Drydock awaiting a 6 month refit.
A company called ITM will be carrying out the work for a reported 10-12 million Euros!!
    That's some refit!!

Yes I know K!W!. The parts you are seeing are of the MSC Splendida underconstruction at the Saint Nazzaire facility (I believe formerly Chantiers D L'Antique). Splendida is the sister to the new MSC Fantasia which is in fit out phase. In those final pics you can see octopus wrapped in cocoon. One could only imagine heavy works are going on.

Yea I know I saw it today too, I was surprised that she was at B+V. The enclosure looks like they are doing some kind of painting to the bow?

There also appears to be scaffolding amidships starboard. Didn't she recieve a new paint job during last years refit? Would it be common for paint to fail so soon or perhaps just some damaged areas? While on the topic of Octopus and Voss and Blohm, I noticed that Octopus is listed on V&B's website along with commonly known B&V yachts. Did B&V collaborate with Lurssen on the build?

I think she was a cooperation between 3 yards but in the end got the Lurssen badge...I am more sure we have more knowledgable members who can say with specificity what happened. Do not depend on what I said in this instance.

In The Superyachts book they say she is built by HDW/Lürssen Werft in Kiel and Bremen 2003, with design from Oeino, JQB and Sorgiovanni.

very interesting. Is it common for shipyards and designers to collaborate like this. I don't remember any other yachts that have shared designers or builders. Whateverver the case I think Octopus is one of the most beautiful, purposeful looking yachts afloat today. I am still curious what work is being performed. Thanks for the information.
