    Nice pics! :)

But they lead me to ask... exactly what color is the hull of Air? I mean, I can see it isn't the standard Awlgrip blue, but it also isn't exactly grey either. At least, it doesn't seem to be. Sometimes it's very grey looking, other times, it's more blue-grey. Interesting effect.

ABB have some info on their site

    MY Air, March 2005

    Builder : Lürssen Yachts
    LOA : 90 m
    Class : GL

The power plant of the MY Air (delivered by Lürssen Yachts to her Owner in May 2005) is similar to the one on the previous yacht, but in lieu of propeller shafts, the My Air employs two Compact Azipod Units.

The two 2 500 kW Compact Azipod units and bow tunnel thruster are fed directly from the main 690 V busbar. Ship's service, steering motors and hotel loads are fed from the auxiliary 440V busbar through redundant transformers. The back-up steering motors are fed from the emergency switchboard.
Filters are provided to minimize harmonic distortion.

    ABB Marine Deliveries (2004) :

    8 x 1000 kVA Main Alternators
    2 x 2500 kW Compact Azipod Propulsion
    2 x 3000 kVA DTC Propulsion Converters

Hi Newton and welcome to YachtForums!

We are discussing almost everything around yachts except who are the owners. Some owners don´t mind to be connected to their yachts and those names can appear also here, but in general we respect the owners wish for security and PRIVACY... ;)

Just looked at the Nigel Burgess site, they are announcing Air has just been sold.

    That was short ownership.

Well, after looking at the images of Air, I have to say that I am MUCH more impressed with her technical attributes than her looks....I do not mean to say I do not like the look, I just guess that it will take some time to grow on me....as opposed to my instant love of the looks of, say, Pelorus!!!

What I DO like is the owner's desires for the cleanest possible vessel that he/she could get....KUDOS to them for that aspect....

Maybe what is bugging me a bit is the color they used. I wonder how different it would have looked with a nice blue or black hull???? I personally find that gray/black to be a bit depressing...maybe that is the problem me???

    Hmmmm

    Cheers,

    Mark

Mark, I think there is something out-of-tune with the superstructure on that design. But I can't put my finger on just what the problem is. Overall effect is a very boring, or as somebody once said, "industrial", look. There are better looking wedding cakes out there.

    Well,

Perhaps.....I am thinking that part of the issue is the height of the superstructure versus the length of the yacht...then again, maybe I am full of it....I guess that I am sort of used to seeing yachts in the 80m+ range that have superstructures that are much taller (Rising Sun, Octopus, Platinum, etc)...

But, if I was paying biggie bucks for a yacht, then I can design it like I want and to blazes with public opinion....then again, according to a previous post in this thread, a broker's site was announcing that Air had been sold. Why? We may never know....or, maybe the owners decided that they hated the boat after all.....or, somebody made a massive offer that the owners simply could not refuse???? Sort of like the owner of Trinity's new 180' Mia Elise?? He sold at least one prior Mia Elise to a person who visited the yard...that visitor made an unsolicited offer, and poof, it was sold. The same scenario might of happened a second time, as the 180' Mia Elise is the 5th incarnation of that name from the same yard....in less than 5 years!!

I will still admire the owner's desires for an environmentally friendly yacht!!! My possible love of the yacht's design?? Not so sure

    Cheers,

    Mark
