The floatout of Opus will take place tomorrow. The design of her bow (unfortunately) hasn't changed.

Does anyone have something to share about this specific design choice?

Given her colour and her bow, I guess the owner can use Opus as an aircraft carrier too :)

Apologies for the double post. Opus has been launched and her colour combination seems... different.

I think some of it (hopefully) is protective wrap.

Alot of the 'blue' is protective wrap. One thing i am curious about is the fact the name OPUS is revealed on the prow, sides and stern. Usually Lurssen has the name hidden at this stage. I know OPUS is the project name so perhaps this is temporal? There have only been a few times when the project name was actually the final name...

I think you may be right, looking closely at some of the pics, the name boards appear to be temporary.

The light blue on the superstructure looks way too detailed (to be a protective film, that is) but maybe you guys are right.

By the way, the Internet is saying this could be the successor to Palmer Johnson's Lady M.

I don’t believe it is a protective film. It’s a different color from the actual protective film on the stern and traditionally you have a protective film on the hull not super structure.

It's not accurate. Both Scheherazade and Flying Fox had a protecting film on the superstructure. You can easily check it googling them.
And...there are many types and colours of protecting films

Knierim Yachtbau recently announced the delivery of SOLAS limo tenders for a Luerssen yacht. Given the tender colours I'd say they're for Project Opus.

I was in the area today and have taken the chance to have a look at the new Luerssen yacht Opus. Below the results and some analysis.

I have to admit, Opus looks in reality much better than I thought. Very harmonic lines, great proportions, actually a very nice design.

Actually the aircraft carrier bow is by far not as bad, as I was afraid of. Btw. the little speed boat is what the normal mortal Germans can afford :).

The foward part of the superstructure is definately covered with some temporary canvas or rubber mat but the sides of the superstructure seem to have their final colour.

    IMG_010.jpg
Interesting mast, exhaust and antenna array. Finally a new design. Not bad at all.

I like the retractable service deck wing. First time I see one of those with stairs on it. Neccessary to atain full standing height under the "carrier deck". The service makes full use of the deck structure for internal height.
It needs some time to get used to bow ornament / ships name holder. And I have checked the forward deck. There is no catapult for launching fixed wing aircraft :p. Sorry could not resist.

As far as the name OPUS is concerned, It might be the final name but I am not sure wheather these are the final letters. The support of this letters will not allow a longer name.

Opus is definately built according to the LPYC. SOLAS life boat and SOLAS rescue boat behind those hatches. Very nicely concealed in the superstructure.

    IMG_014.jpg
On the lower deck two hatches for tenders. The large one most likely for the Knierim limo tender

    IMG_015.jpg
The most rear hatch looks like a beach club for the wellness area. Notice the retracting helicopter hangar. Same type like seen on Thunder. That hangar will host at least a 8 seat helicopter.

    IMG_016.jpg
Detail of the stern. Still a lot of protective film. Ample of outside seating and a large pool.

I am wondering about the rear main deck with its open side deck. Might be covered later in the finishing phase.

I like this Octopus style wheelhouse with the enclosed bridge wings. Also we see a combination of different design elements of previous Luerssen yachts like Thunder and Octopus, this yacht reminds me very much on Quattroelle. Many details are very similar with Quattroelle.

I will take an educated guess. This is the owners new Quattroelle. And the owners wife is an opera singer, which would explain the ships name. If this is the new Quattroelle, we will see a lot of internal and external pictures and for sure one more Tom Nitsch videos about her.

    Just my two (Euro) cents

Not a bad suggestion to think its the new Quattrolle as its from the same designer Nuvolari that is, also note it has the same sand white hull color. The new lady M rumor makes sense as well since that yacht is designed by Nuvolari again and same hull colour. My feeling just by looking at the name plate and somewhat edgy (for superyacht design) design is that project opus is the new Lady M. Quite an upgrade for the owner. Congrats.

The solid plate underneath definitely isn't much longer than the temporary OPUS name that see but what if the font size is smaller then a smaller name could definitely fit in the space.

If we are talking about the 105 meter B&V built Lady M, You are most likely referring to the interview with the owners wife, where she stated that a brand new replacement for Lady Moura would be inbound.

I thought about that possibility too but:

The owner of Lady M is presently 81 yers old and more likely retiring than building a new yacht. Lady M really never did long range traveling except for seasonal repositioning, she had her standard moorings in Palma and Port Hercules. Lady M was mostly used as a second residence on the water around the Med and not as an explorer yacht.

Opus is definately not a typical middle east design, far to much open deck spaces for this type of ownership
and as stated by ***** Yachts, OPUS will be used for travelling around the globe. And ***** Yachts also did oversee the built of Quattroelle.

It is not just the painting and the general lines of OPUS, which reminded me on Quattroelle, there are many features on OPUS down to the details that are very similar to Quattroelle.

And finally, the overblown name OPUS, if choosen by the owners, fits much better to the wife of the original Quatroelle owner :p, than to the very nice second wife of the present owner of Lady M (just joking but I have met both of them). Btw. we were jetty neigbours of Lady M in Port Hercules for many years before we finally left Monaco for the Balears and one of the former German Sikorski S-76 pilots of Lady M works for us for a few years now.

But ApreMare You could still be right, I had only ventured an aducated guess based on my knowlwdge about those two yachts and their ownerships. We will see very soon.

I must say, I like OPUS and I am looking forward to see interior pictures of her when finished.

Great joke about the name OPUS Ralph:).

The Lady M in question here is a 65M Palmer Johnson, rumor is that Opus is her replacement.
