Just received a video from Alex Isaac from Lila-Lou Design with a presentation of their unique sail system. This is nicely done and details the articulated nature of the system, which appears to have merit. Take a look for yourself... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=50ARfQR8J6g&feature=channel Here's a link to the original feature I wrote... http://www.yachtforums.com/forums/f...-sailboat-concept-twin-masted-swing-sail.html ***
Very cool. This is sure to bring about 30 new terms of nautical nomenclature specific to sailing, as it's not really what it appears.... down wind or on a reach, it's almost a sort of wing on wing (the sweet spot of sailing as far as I'm concerned) with an oddly placed spinnaker. Upwind, or on a tack, the mechanics of the sails then come into effect, which I find quite impressive and can't wait to see in action. My guess is there will be a fair amount of technology behind the scenes (see Maltese Falcon) which makes it all blend together at the helm. Pretty impressive in my book.
I just love how the automation and mehcanics come to play there but seeing that makes me wonder the massive banks of technology that will be embedded into this platform to make it work efficiently. I mean if built, it would be a first!
