Lights, the crazy stuff you see out there

    I m pretty sure south Florida and especially Miami is ground zero for sheer idiocy when it comes to boating in general and lights in particular.

    last night, a windy week night no less, I encountered two things I ve never seen before….

    First was a 100+ footer with a number of party lights including two red lights high in the FB one on top of the other. Maybe great for the party but to everybody else on the water, red over red means Not Under Command

    second one was even better. Some genius also on a 90/100 footer decided that a white underwater light, at the bow, facing forward would be cool. And even cooler underway.

    nope… not cool when you re on the receiving end coming the other way. Idiot wasn’t monitoring 16, no surprise

    Up the St Johns river every lil boat has these big bright light bars facing forward.
    Ole Bert's air horns gets the message thru.

    They are out there and they breed.
    That is why we must always be vigilant and careful.
