This is sad. I am a big John fan and enjoy his luv of the water.
I hope she can be raised and fixed back to operation.
This was his first before Wild Goose if I remember correctly.
    Both were prize yachts.

I am from Friday Harbor with family still living on the rock. There are reefs in the San Juan’s that reach up and grab careless navigators all the time.

I hate it when reefs pop up overnight growing out of nowhere.

I really hope the old gal can be salvaged.

    What?

Yes we have proper insurance, a million dollar insurance plan, yet they will only cover us to have our fuel removed from our tanks. They stated that they will not be covering the removal of the boat even though it states in our insurance that it will cover that if a situation like this occurs.

Yep, Liability insurance with some pollution coverage.

Agreed. But labeling a boat of that value as being "properly insured"? Seems like the same coverage you get from Boat US for being a member.

Built in 1932, I doubt she can carry full or cash repair coverage.
The Liability just covers damage to others and as we are guessing, pollution control.
As the hulk is abandoned, the insurance may help in that cost also.
Sadly, kiss this rig good by.

After all of these years, un-charted rocks in a harbor?
I'm ready for the operator to get his dumb pilgrim asp whooped.

Agreed. Unless someone steps in and takes this project on, out of the hands of the current situation, I don't see any hope displayed in anything cursory as it is that I am seeing here.

Every boat has a lifespan and I fear this one has reached the end of hers. She's a good looking vessel, but not exceptional. The GoFundMe page shows $13,380 donated against a goal of $1.5M. The boat is privately owned. They claim to want to restore her to raise funds for cancer research. Seems to me the money would be better used if donated directly to cancer research. Now if the private owners want to restore her and then use her to raise funds for the research I would applaud that, but not to restore someone's private yacht.

I know of 2 in Venezuela, one of which was near where I was moored. I would often jump in the dinghy when a large yacht was entering harbour and guide them away from it. The other one I found on entering a popular marina, thankfully only lost a bit of antifouling. It used to have a marker on it but that had rusted out and the steel spike was just below the water.

A friend was skipper of a 175' CRN motoryacht. His owner purchased a mooring at Capri Marina in Italy. On going stern-to for the first time, the props smashed into a rock just off the dock. The marina manager and salesman were soon in a lengthy court case which the Boss won.

I live and grew up close to this area. Prevost Harbor is a really popular place for boats. I'm really surprised they grounded it.
I feel bad for them. It could happen to anyone I guess.

    Is she still flooded/sunk?

On another news item for her, stated owners were expecting to raise $100,000 for cancer donations before the incident.
Now, currently trying to raise $1.2M to restore the boat to continue the $100,000 drive.
What is wrong with that math?

Sounds normal if he's a politician.
