Happy holidays to all. I just picked up a splendite combo washer dryer unit. We have a 1989 3807. I am thinking of installation in cabinet behind the reefer, or on the sundeck. The 3807 model has a water faucet located under the cabinet on the sundeck, so all I would have to do is run is a drain to a thru-hull on starboard side. The cabinet behind refrigerator has a tambour door that may be used to load washer. Has anyone taken this project on or have a 3807 with a combo unit already installed? Before I started, I thought I would throw this question out there and see if there were any recommendations.
Mission accomplished Combo unit installed. I decided to put it inside the cabinet located behind the reefer. I little project to take the counter top off and get the unit on the back sundeck. Ran a new waterline and thru hull. The unit is a ventless model, I wish it was a vented unit, they work a little better for the dry cycle, but it works fine.
washer The biggest problem was running the new waterline. Ther weren't any "aw ****" suprises. Just a strong back and a buddy. Presently we are in S.C. for the winter. Will be heading back north in about 8 to 10 weeks. We will be in Deltaville area for a while if you want to see the results. Keep in touch. Comgrats on the 3607.
washer/dryer Just picked up a 4207 and I've been thinking about this. I'd planned a compact washer and separate compact dryer, but I just noticed the combos. Do the clothes come out slightly damp? Have you seen a combo that is vented? How's the draw on amps? Thanks for the info Charles
There's a thread on YF awhile back discussing some W/D's they claim are good, but I couldn't find it. The ones I've used are good for a couple of T-shirts and such. They haven't dried things like jeans and towels. I prefer using the ones on land.
Combo washer/dryer We are still in a learning mode with the washer/dryer. We noticed with a couple pair of jeans and shirts, it takes longer to dry. Last test load was 2 jeans, 3 shirts, 2 pair socks, bath towel. It took 1 hour 40 mins to dry. NOw if we wash that much, I split up the dry cycle in half. It works faster that way. Wife still likes the washers at the marina, but this is nice to use when travelling or when you only have a couple of things. It will earn its keep and the space it takes up. No regrets.
glad to see you're still happy with it, and keep me the loop on your trip north I'd like to see the install when you stop in D-ville
combo or separates Good feedback. I'm still weighing the combo vs small separate units. Amazon lists a Haier washer and dryer that have been getting pretty good reviews. I plan to spend quite a bit of time in the conch republic so I'm thinking I'd better go vented.
We wanted a vented model because of the reviews. But the price of this one (unvented) was too good to pass up. So here is the 60 day or 24 wash review: NYCAP123 was right about the jeans and towels, they come out a little damp. Its good that we are in S.C. for the winter, I just hang them in the flybridge to finish drying. But for the other stuff, it works fine. No regrets on the space it takes up. We lost a pantry, but we have plenty of storage available (you don't hear that very often on a boat). We have only used the W/D unit when tied up and on shore power. It uses a large amount of water for a cycle. We haven't used it while underway yet, but we may try that on our trip back north in April. Somewhat long term, we are still happy with the unit providing we use it within its capacities, and knowing that it isn't a full size washer and dryer. Wife prefers the Marina washers
I can't attest to any problems using the W/D underway, never did it, but I'd be hesitant. A drier draws a lot of juice. Also and mainly though I'd be worried about damaging it with an "unbalanced load". I've run into that problem with my home washer a few times (although it's a top loader) and it cost me a repair. Your wife may know more than either of us on that one as her preference for the marina units tells me she has more experience than either of us.
