Hi, I would appreciate any assistance in finding info...a manual.... pics etc. for an old Carver 'Monterey' model 27' approx. from 1979/80. The boat I'm looking at needs much TLC and I have not any photos or info on the original specs.

    Single I/O Mercruiser Alpha ( V8 350 )
    Head/shower
    fridge
    stove
    V berth

Advice on what faults/problems that might be related to this particular boat especially the hull structure/ electrics and what to look out for before I jump in the deep end and start refurb. would be very helpful.

    Thank you.

    Carver 'Monterey'

In 2005 I purchased a 1976 Carver 'Monterey', the boat is 25'. We have been restoring it over the last nearly two years and she went into the shop for an engine check out this week. Does anyone have pictures of a Monterey from the 70's or early 80's that they would like to share? I have some ideas of things I would like to change on the boat but would love to see what others have done.

I found these photos on the web. This looks like a good original Monterey specimen. Hope this helps.

this model was very popular (here in Ohio), and was made by Carver until the 1987 model year. For 1988, they came out with the "wide body" 2557 Montego, which sold even better for us.

I have one in the water regularly. Never had any trouble with it.
Replaced the bilge pumps and fresh water pumps as out dated. Little else.
I have some original owner and service manuals. Can share copys.

    1989 Carver Montego 25

Hello boaters. thanks for the great insights. I recently bought a Carver and have the original manual but I find it very lacking (no pictures tying anything to the text). I went to the web site to try to download but could not find my model. it might be too old. I am trying to get a handle on how all of the electrical works.

any comments on the manual would be great. some specific questions if anyone has any comments would be:

    1. My depth sounder is apparently no longer working. I had the marina mechanic come down to look at it once and it mysteriously came on, but nothing since then. anyone know where to get a replacement controller? I have no reason to beleive the acutal sounder is out.
    2. Generators. Mine does not have one for using the AC etc at sail. Does anyone know what type would be good, where I can look for one, etc. Also, will an inverter work in place of a generator.

thanks for the insight, I am sure i will be trolling for me.
