What are your personal opinions of whether it would be better to buy a 1982 vs. '83 and beyond Hatt hulled boat. I understand that both the sportsfish and motoryacht hulls became more efficient at that time. How? Less deep, using a deeper keel? It is unclear to me.

Does anyone think the post 83 hulls ride better or as well as their older predecessors? I heard that they did it to keep up with Viking who had gone less deep hull, with a deeper keel. And how much improved efficiency are we talking about, in speed or fuel efficiency? I am looking at a 80 yachtfish (58 feet) and an 81 convertible (60feet) and I'm wondering if I will blow it by not getting the more modern hull.

    thanks, Chris Amsden
