    Got an e-mail from YF member JWY (Judy Waldman). She was lost somewhere in the Pacific Northwest over the summer, but managed to find Florida again before it got too cold. Welcome home Judy.

    Attached to her e-mail was a set of pictures that she found too sad to post. I however, have no issues with looking at affordable boats...

    Here's the story: this 71 foot Hatteras named "Grunt" is from Huntington Beach, CA. It caught fire around 1:00 AM, August 13th, due to a short in the Inverter. The boat was in Catalina at Cherry Cove on its mooring. Everyone made it off the boat safely.

    Small world. I'm a diver. Certified rescue, wreck, search & recovery, etc.

    I received a phone call from a friend of mine asking if I wanted to come down and assist in giving him a hand with the recovery of this boat.

    My schedule as such didn't permit in doing so.

    Glad to see they got it up.

    I saw the numerous boats in the background. Are these spectators who came to watch or is the parking lot usually full?

    Back when I was dropping anchor there in the early and mid-80's, there were times when there wasn't another vessel around.

    Some poor sap is going to buy it from one of the salvage vessel web sites thinking he is getting a great deal. When it's all fixed up, he will have spent more than it's worth.

    Me thinks it's a total loss.

    I'll ask him for some more detailed photos of the inside of the structure and hull so we can take a better peek.

    Always sad to see a good vessel burn, but good when all aboard make it off safely. I hope to find a better deal in Norwalk.

    The boat looks like an old model Hatteras 65 Convertible with an extended add-on cockpit.

    It is a extended 65. It is one of two built with the big 396 MTUs
