The s/y Salperton was supposed to have been launched earlier this year, however, I did not hear anything on this so I was wondering if she was or not? The Salperton is a 44M long fast sailing sloop built by Fitzroy Yachts of New Zealand. She was built to a design by the famous Dubois Naval Architects. She is also said to be the company's (Fitzroy yachts) largest yacht to date and they threw everything they knew well into this project. The Interior of the yacht was fashioned and designed by Adam Lay Studio and Design Limited. This design features a sumptous and very spacious master bedroom, room for 3 guests in 3 rooms and also space for the hard working crew. They will be housed in 3 crew cabins. Here is a rendering of one of the rooms...looks to be the master: http://www.fitzroyyachts.com/images/salp_int_rend_lge.jpg Here are some of her statistics of interest: LOA :44M BOA :9.3M Draught :4.75M(Keel up)/7M (Keel down) Displacement:215 tonnes Engines :875 HP Caterpillar Engine Type C18D Rig :Marten Spars Launch : 2007? For more information on this vessel please look at the builder's website at: http://www.fitzroyyachts.com/salperton.htm http://fitzroyyachts.com
Some additional information on the Salperton IV is available on the Fitzroy website at: http://www.fitzroyyachts.com/salpertonIV.htm
article in Boat International There is an article about her in the October issue of Boat International.
Salperton III was launched from Fitzroy in April 2007 ~ this is the boat that the BI article covered in October. Salperton IV is due for launch early 2009. Another Dubois hull with interior by Adam Lay Studio.
Salperton IV also has some very nice interior renderings on the builder's website...that were apparently added in January of this year. http://www.fitzroyyachts.com/salpertonIV.htm
Above I spoke of renderings but there are now actual interior photos of the new "Salperton". Her interior is beautiful and actually looks more like a motoryacht than on a sail yacht. http://www.fitzroyyachts.com/portfolio_salpertonIV_int.htm
Some bad news about the "Salperton"... Apparently she recently lost her mast while sailing off the Caribbean island of Guadeloupe a few days ago. The carbon mast failed about six meters above the deck. The mast was manufactured by Southern Spars.
Are you sure Ron? I just saw Salperton late last week in the BVI- they were heading over to Virgin Gorda for the Superyacht Cup.
